Kraken Cosmetics has been on my radar for a while. I first noticed them on Etsy and have been wanting to try out their cosmetics line.
Also, the name is pretty awesome.
So I finally ordered one of their eye shadow palettes, Notice Me Senpai.
I will start out by saying that the color story and selection is very unique. For a beginner to makeup, at first glance, this palette may seem intimidating to them. However, when you look at the colors as quad eye shadow combos as opposed to separately, you realize that they all work well together!
The colors also have really cute names based off of anime personalities and terms:
DANDERE A cool lilac matte.
DEREDERE Bright blushy pink shimmer
YANDERE
A dark reddish-plum matte
KUUDERE A medium teal matte
TSUNDERE A pastel-neon coral base with a red shift
HIMEDERE A yellowish-gold shimmer
DAISUKI YO! Light brown/peach with shiny glitter and silver shimmer
KAWAII! Vivid dandelion yellow matte
YATTA! A foil duochrome glitter that shifts from magenta-red to a ginger orange
SUGOI! An apple cider brown matte
BAKA! A taupe satin with a bronze and silver shine with an occasional sparkle
DAMARE! Army green matte ( one of the best green shadows I have used)
For my eye look, I used Damare, Baka, Himdere, and Tsudere. Let me tell you, they all blended beautifully and smoothly to create a gorgeous, earthly, forest look, but still distinguishable enough to know I used four different colors. This palette is an excellent balance of warm, cool and neutral tones with an excellent balance of bright, muted and pastel colors. The colors are nicely pigmented and for the people that love to build up their shadows, this also excels in that due to the blend-ability. This palette is very accessible to everyone of all makeup skill levels.
However, the only critique I have is that some of the colors have some kick up, particularly the shimmers, but that's a majority of shimmers. The palette also doesn't come with a mirror but, from an environmental perspective, mirrors are not recyclable so it's more of a personal perspective.
Some people may also point out that for $32, it is on the expensive side. I disagree, mainly because this is an indie brand and you are getting 12 26 mm pans of eye shadow, compared to an Anastasia Beverly Hills palette which retails for $42-$45 which give you less product. The Too Faced Tutti Frutti Palettes, had less colors and product and retailed for $34.
I have reviewed indie and mainstream brands before and this palette is the closest to perfection for me personally in what I look for in terms of quality and price. Also, the packaging is super cute and appeals to my nerdy/geeky side.
This palette gets 9 senpais out of 10.
