Rihanna, we need to talk.
I love your matte foundation, its inclusive and I finally found a very fair neutral shade that matches my exact skin tone, so thank you. Your lipsticks and the Gloss Bomb are fantastic as are your highlighters.
Your first eye shadow palette, Galaxy on the other hand, yeah, we need to sit down.
First of all, the packaging is beautiful (how did you know that I love the metallic rainbow color) and so are the eye shadow shades. They are very glittery and sparkly, exactly as you intended for the time that it was released which was during the holidays.
I'll go ahead and list the colors in the best order that I can list them:
Xtra Terrestrial (smoky moss with iridescent green)
Lightyear (smoky charcoal with gold glitter)
Planet Ex (smoky brown with iridescent glitter)
Oh-Zone (sheer platinum glitter)
Ultraviolit (smoky violet with iridescent glitter)
Sublime (sheer mint and gold glitter)
Milky Way (ivory with iridescent glitter)
Cosmic Ocean (sheer aqua glitter)
Meteor Crush (sheer pink and gold glitter)
Jupiter Sand (smoky chocolate with iridescent purple)
Mars On Fire (sheer copper rose glitter)
Midnight Bolt (true blue with superfine glitter)
Space Owt (smoky grape with holographic blue)
Sunburst (amber with gold glitter)
While the finger swatches are lovely and vibrant, this is an eye shadow palette that you have to use your fingers to apply with because if you use a brush, like I did with blending the crease, the shades blend away quickly. Some shades, such as Oh-Zone and Cosmic Ocean, had to be packed and built up in order to get the vibrancy I wanted. This is of course considering that the glitter fall out was horrendous as I was creating this look to the point I ended up getting "Glitter Tits."
While the packaging is gorgeous, you can see in the photos that there are a lot of fingerprints and stains on it, this particular packaging gets dirty very quickly. It can be cleaned but some of the cleaning items may destroy the metallic finish. The names of the shades are on the back of the palette and not underneath the shade due to how the shades are organized, which is a pet peeve of mine but it's minor compared to the other issues I had with it.
I really wanted to revisit this palette because my friend Victoria and were talking about primers and base shadows. As we were having this conversation, a light bulb went off (by the way, thanks Victoria for the inspiration), and I thought, let's put a primer and a base shadow on my right eye and leave the left eye bare to see how it applies and the differences in the finished looks.
As you can see, on the left eye, to get the vibrancy that I wanted, I had to really pack it in with my fingers, to get the look that I wanted, while on the right eye with the primer and base shadow, I didn't have to do as much work to get the vibrancy.
The reason why I did this was so that people can see what it will look like, what the differences are and the fact that not everyone likes wearing primer. The look is the same, but the finish is different.
This palette is beautiful, but it is extremely difficult to work with due to the amount of kick up, glitter fall out, how it blends and the fact that the shades it don't stay on very long, which is disappointing, but the glitter does stay for a few days.
Hence the term, Glitter Tits.
More likely than not, to get the glitter to stay, in addition to using primer, you're going to have to use glitter glue.
This palette is workable but you really have to put in so much work into your look to make it worth it due to the formula and honestly, when I put on makeup, I expect it to be with a minimal amount of work, not spend half and hour putting it together. One thing I also wanted to test with the base shadow is to see how it would work as an eye shadow topper and lo and behold, it's very effective!
If this palette were marketed as an eye shadow topper palette, that would have been a different story considering that the colors are really lovely and can work for so many shades; it is that versatile.
As an eye shadow palette, it's a disappointment.
I know you came out with a Moroccan Spice Eye Shadow Palette not too long ago and it is lovely, but after my experience with this one, I'm going to wait for it to go on sale before I give that one a shot. Sadly, this Limited Edition Palette is not worth the full $59 price tag that I paid for.
Is this worth it as an eye shadow topper palette, yes.
Is this worth it as an eye shadow palette, no.
This palette gets 4 galaxies out of 10.
Sorry, Riri.
