I am so salty right now.
If you recall my review of Urban Decay's Naked Cherry Palette, you'll know how disappointed I was with the quality, formula and performance of the shadows. I figured, I would give the Naked3 palette a try since it was on sale and that I was burned by my experience that I could not justify paying full price on any Naked palettes; that and the fact that Naked Ultraviolet is getting mixed reviews.
When the Naked3 Palette arrived in the mail, I figured I would swatch it and test it right away. I was so pissed.
Now, let me explain. The picture on top left corner and the one next to it are the Urban Decay brush and finger swatches respectively. I'll explain in a moment why I used the Urban Decay brush rather than my own but suffice to say, overall, this palette swatches better than the Naked Cherry.
You'd think that I would be happy about this, in a way I am, but I am also mad that I spent my gift card money on the Naked Cherry Palette rather than the Naked3 which was better quality overall. But I digress.
Before I go any further, here are the shades:
Strange (pale neutral pink matte-satin)
Dust (pale metallic pink shimmer w/iridescent micro-glitter)
Burnout (light pinky-peach satin)
Limit (light dusty rose matte)
Buzz (metallic rose shimmer w/silver micro-glitter)
Trick (light metallic pinky-copper shimmer w/tonal micro-sparkle)
Nooner (medium pinky-brown matte)
Liar (medium metallic mauve shimmer)
Factory (pinky-brown satin)
Mugshot (metallic taupe shimmer w/slight pink shift)
Darkside (deep taupe-mauve satin)
Darkheart (smoky black matte w/rosy red micro-sparkle)
To get the brush swatches, I used the brush that Urban Decay provided in the palette because for some people that purchase palettes and it comes with a brush, it may be one of the few brushes that they actually have and can use. I will say that the brushes that Urban Decay provides, in general, are crap quality at best and with what you pay for, I was expecting a better quality brush.
The matte shades in this palette perform much better overall than the Naked Cherry palette. However, I did have a problem with Limit, as it swatched poorly in both the brush and finger swatches. I had to swatch Limit 5 times to get the payoff I needed!
The only matte shades that had kick up issues was Limit and Strange, the others performed wonderfully.
The shimmer shades were also better overall than the Naked Cherry Palette. There were a few that had kick up and fall out issues, notably, Dust, Buzz and Darkheart. All of them blend beautifully and work with each other very well as with the Naked Cherry Palette.
This is where I'm really mad. The quality and formula of this palette is miles better than Naked Cherry but Naked Cherry has colors that I really love a little bit more than this one. I don't understand why Urban Decay couldn't apply the same exact formula to the Naked Cherry as they did for this palette?! Naked3 is $6 more than Naked Cherry, which absolutely makes no sense to me.
This is going to be a problem for Urban Decay (it already is) down the line because customers really hate inconsistency and I really wish that the formula was much better in the Naked Cherry palette. Their formula and quality inconsistency is going to screw them over. Another problem that they are going to have is that eventually, consumers are going to get sick of the Naked Brand as a whole and Urban Decay needs to come up with something else that has a huge WOW factor because Naked Ultraviolet (the colors are pretty but I was expecting mostly different shades of violet, not peach) has been met with mixed reviews.
Here's the truth of all of this, I have said that the Naked Cherry Palette has colors that I love more than all of the other palettes and I do like that one, however, Naked3 has better overall quality and I enjoyed using the Naked3 palette much more than the Naked Cherry. I also see myself reaching for this palette more than the Naked Cherry. It's also more accessible in terms of varying makeup skills and it really sticks to its color theme much better than Naked Cherry. I honestly wish that I used my gift card that I received during the holidays to purchase the Naked3 palette instead of the Naked Cherry.
If you are looking for a palette that has Rose Neutrals, more of a Rose Gold feel and is more accessible to makeup beginners, you can do no wrong with this palette. If I had to pick between the Naked Cherry Palette and Naked3 now, I would go with the Naked3.
The Naked3 palette gets 8.5 rose nudes out of 10.
